8:30 AM Exit #10 of Myeong-dong subway station
From the moment you step into Gyeongbokgung Palace, time seems to slow. You’ll hear the rhythmic beat of drums as royal guards, dressed in vibrant robes, march in perfect step—just as they did centuries ago. On Tuesdays, we wander instead through Changdeokgung, where secret gardens whisper stories of kings and scholars.
We then meander into the winding lanes of Bukchon Hanok Village, where curved tiled roofs frame glimpses of the modern city beyond. On Sundays, the peaceful courtyards of Namsangol Hanok Village welcome us instead, their wooden floors cool underfoot.
The city unfolds before you from Bugak Palgakjeong, a mountaintop pavilion where the skyline glitters under the wide Korean sky. By midday, the air is thick with the aromas of sizzling jeon and sweet mayak gimbap at Gwangjang Market, tempting you to taste your way through Seoul’s street food heritage.
The afternoon deepens in reflection—among towering sculptures at the War Memorial of Korea and with sweeping historical views from the rooftop of the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History. Finally, we trade the city’s bustle for the stillness of Jogyesa Temple, before ending at Tapgol Park, where the spirit of Korea’s March 1st Independence Movement still lingers in the air.
